Dear all,

As some of  you probably know in 1988 people in Armenia experienced the Spitak Earthquake and suffered much damage, and 7th of December was the Memorial Day of the Earthquake victims.

This was one of the reasons why we are in the list of NDYS participant countries; we want our young generation be morally prepared to the such disasters.

This was one of the reasons why we are in the list of NDYS participant countries; we want our young generation be morally prepared to the such disasters.

Project Harmony Armenia decided to give Armenian students the opportunity to present their painitngs in the January 18th Exhibition organized by JEARN. And to select a collection of the best painting, we initiated a big national exhibition "Talk about the Earthquake Through our Paintings".

The whole project started in November and was coordinated by Project Harmony, within the scope of the Armenia School Connectivity Program, a program of the US Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, funded through the FREEDOM Support Act. The project had 2 phases:

The first phase of contest was implemented in all 11 regions of Armenia. A collection of 1500 paintings depicting the “88 December 07 Earthquake” from more than 700 schools were exposed at the 11 local exhibitions.

During these exhibition the local jury choose 10-15 of best pictures from each region which were later to be exposed at the final exhibition at the National Gallery. The 150 finalists selected in the result of local exhibitions were invited to take part in the final national exhibition on December 17th

At the final exhibition at the National Gallery in Yerevan 15 paintings were to be selected for the Japanese exhibition.

The excitement of the participants was overwhelming, because for the many of them it was their first exhibition. Many students felt that the most important part of the event was their participation in this project, since their paintings were observed and evaluated not only by a large audience but also by professional and talented painters.

Thus, this was a project to allow students learn about the importance of human lives and cooperation and empower them against natural disasters.

We decided to create a web page, which would contain all information about the Exhibition.

Information is not completed yet, but you can visit the virtual version of the exhibition through the link: http://www.projectharmony.am/gallery/slide.php?mode=h&newik=0&marz=yes&title_id=1

Happy New Year to all of you
