Dear all,
Perhaps some of our partners have already known the recent ENO project:
Tree
Planting http://eno.joensuu.fi
ENO chose Sep.21 to the big event for it is Peace Day of UN.
Coincidentally, Sep.21 is also an unforgettable date to Taiwan people.
Back to 1999, this earthquake seriously struck the northern and central
part of Taiwan, claiming 2,500 lives. In spite of the fact the 5
years has passed, many side effectives still exist.
Now with the ENO activity, it is a good start for Faye, Melin and I to
initate the Natural disaster project in my school, and hopefully we can
influence our community. On Sep 21, our school will launch our ENO
campaign with the ENO first activity--Tree Planting. In Taiwan, Sep. 21
is also an unforgettable date for Taiwan people back to 1999, when
devastating earthquakes seriously struck the Northern and Central Taiwan
claiming the lives of about 2,500 people. Therefore, we decide to
make the Tree Planting Day to arouse our community of their environment
awareness along with our most condolscences to September 21 Earthquake
vitims and their surving families.
The major activities involved are:
1. Students will make public speech on their concerns for ENO and Tree
Planting activity. Later on, our principal, one local senior
citizen, andour commnity administrator are invited to do the tree
planting with our
students.
2. In our school library, a big artificial tree is set up for teachers
and students to hang their best wishes to our living environment, their
best regards for Sep. 21 Earthquake victims, and our best hopes for
world peace.
Students will be encouraged to create new verses for Negai, too. Around
the
tree are posters of activity description, including posters made of all
the
plants collected from our campus, ENO flyers, and articles about our
environment. It is hoped that everyone can contribute some to the
whole
meaningful project.
On our first try on promoting ENO activities, Doris, Melin and I find it
so
much rewarding. Whenever we ask someone for help on this
project, no one
hesitate to say yes---- teachers, students, our staffs, you name it!!
In particular, our students spent their whole free day volunteering to
do
the preparations for next Tuesday in many different ways; some made the
posters, some did some book researches on line or in the library, some
helped to set up the tree in the library, and some tried very hard to
prepare their speeches for the public announcement!
We would like to share this news with our partners in natural
disaster
project!!
Warm regards,
Doris
