Twenty years ago, today,
the Great Hanshin-Awaji
Earthquake occurred and
claimed the precious lives
of many people. Ten
years after this
earthquake, the Natural
Disaster Youth Summit (NDYS) was held
in Hyogo, which was one
of the areas most
affected by the earthquake.
Participants, from all
over the world,
discussed the matter of
disaster
prevention and made their
declaration, stating
that: “The most
important thing is to
continue to
discuss what we can do for
disaster prevention and
exchange our opinions
with each other.”
Ten
years later, we gather
together in Toyota-City,
Aichi prefecture, to
exchange our opinions.
Twenty years ago,
we were not born yet.
However,
our seniors participated
in NDYS and made new
friends from all over
the world. They crossed
great borders and gave
us an opportunity to
discuss disaster
prevention on a stage such as this.
We
have succeeded to the
activities that our
seniors began and
continue the dialog
today.
From
now on, we have to
cooperate with each
other and continue NDYS
for our future.
