Welcome to JEARN  10th anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake

Natural Disater Youth Summit 2005

  Outline

This is a project in which children will learn the importance of human lives and how to survive from Natural Disasters with students who have experienced earthquakes and other disasters.

In 1995, people in Hyogo experienced the Hanshin-Awaji earthquake and suffered much damage. We realize the fear of natural disasters.

We can not stop natural disasters, however, we can decrease the damage from them. This is what we learned through our experience.

Board of Education of Hyogo has been putting in serious efforts to tackle the “New Disaster Prevention Study” since the Earthquake. They have published these guide books for the schools.

Children of Hyogo have been studying the “New Disaster Prevention Study” for almost ten years through their terrible but significant experiences of Hashin-Awaji Earthquake. The goal is to use the lessons we learned from the Earthquake and help the children grow to be wonderful adults with voluntary mind.

The new iEARN project “Natural Disaster youth Summit 2005” will start from September 2004.  Children from all over the world and Japanese children will share the study of disaster prevention and importance of living.  Our motto is “Think about the importance of human life!    remembering the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake day.
